Ecotech roadmap reveals systemic integration of ecological and technological innovation
Original framing: “Introducing ecotech, nature's innovation accelerator” — Phys.org
The scientific rigor of ecotech lies in its interdisciplinary approach, combining ecological science with engineering and social science. However, the field must also integrate non-Western epistemologies to ensure a more comprehensive understanding of ecological systems.
Ecotech represents a promising but incomplete step toward integrating ecological and technological innovation.
To be truly transformative, it must move beyond the technocratic paradigm and embrace Indigenous and local ecological knowledge as equal partners. Historical patterns of exclusion and exploitation must be acknowledged and actively countered through equitable governance and community-led development. By weaving together scientific, cultural, and spiritual dimensions, ecotech can become a systemic force for ecological restoration and social justice. This requires not only technical innovation but also a deep cultural shift in how we understand and relate to the natural world.
